It's annoying how some people won't classify Fallout 3 as an RPG

Reading the user reviews, there are some people who won't give this game the respect it deserves because they're too stuck in their old school Amiga ways. If you've ever met an old man who is grumpy and bitter about how ''we used to do it this way in my days,'' that's how I feel about these people who act with disgust at any RPG that actually attempts to be... gasp.... 3-D!Fallout 3 is not a shooter. It's a clumsy shooter if that's what you're trying to classify it as. I love playing first-person-shooters and I wouldn't call Fallout 3 one at all because it insults the shooter genre that has a much smoother feel and relies more on hand-eye coordination. The VATS system is the only way to play in Fallout 3 which essentially makes it the same as Fallout 1 and 2 because everything is predetermined by formulas as you watch the action. Bethesda only left the option in to manually shoot your way through for commercial appeal but it's really a horribly boring direction to go. It seems to me VATS is what was truly meant for this game. It's just straight up annoying how some people are so stuck in their 1980's computer gaming days that they won't give any RPG props that doesn't have a bland isometric tabletop look. Gaming has changed, technology has improved, deal with it, and stop acting like your simple game that you played back in the day was somehow the apex of gaming achievement because it wasn't. There have been great games every year, and as technology improves, developers try to find new ways to present classic genres. It's annoying how some people won't classify Fallout 3 as an RPG
Troll...Who cares what people classify the game as? Honestly, does it matter? As long as a game is good, and features elements of that genre, you can put it in that genre. It doesn't change the game if its part RPG or even part Adventure. It's annoying how some people won't classify Fallout 3 as an RPG

If you're calling him a troll I can look at the first two pages of this forum and find a dozen threads you probably consider ''trolling''.The OP was stating his opinion that some people are unfairly writing the game off, and promoting discussion.
You better not be dissin' the Amiga!
Clearly not trolling ... its an honest post even if its been said before...
Some people are still mad about Oblivion.
to me this game really does feel like Oblivion with bad gun control. I was hoping for better shooting because I don't care for theRPG side but I thought this game would blend the 2 together and i would like it. For my personal taste these kind of games play too slow, but I can see how other people like it.
The role playing elements arent as strong as the original games. Knowhere near as strong. Its an action rpg, not straight out role playing game.Of course its a good game.
Yeah, I'm guessing most of the negativity and people saying it's not an RPG are from fans of the originals that don't like the changes to the formula that Bethesda made.
Nostalgia''Making pc games seem better then they really were since 1980!''
Well there are sub genres of the role playing genre, and branches off. I guess they mean FO3 doesent fit into the bare bones RPG genre, however is more appropriate in the action rpg sub genre.

Diehard Fallout 1 %26 2 fans thar are full of p*** %26 vinegar over the fact that Bethesda purchased the rights to the single player game and the other group are Morrowind fanatics who hate Bethesda for what they did to the series with Oblivion. You have alot of haters and doubters. For most part, niether group have played the game (pauses for the inevitable post ''I played it and it sucks.'') But most have not and never will. Honestly, I had zero confidence in Bethesda to pull this game off, but they surprised me and I give them credit. It's a fantastic game. Is it a fallout game? I really don't care, it's great game and I have played it non stop since last week.
You better not be dissin' the Amiga!
same thoughts
It's really just the old pen %26 paper crowd disliking the new direction role-playing games have taken on.
Well, I don't care about the POV in RPGs that much. But they do have to come with meaningful choice and consequence and decent writing. Like in Oblivion, these RPG mechanics are quite watered down in Fallout 3.Dialog trees often boil down to this:NPC: I SAW A RADSCORPION THE OTHER DAY. NASTY CREATURES.
PC:
1) A radscorpion?
2) [Intelligence] I can kill some radscorpions if you pay me
3) LOL DIE NOOB
4) Rumours
5) Exit My only gripe with VATS are the constant bullet time and gore explosions. Gets old fast.Apart from that - good game, the story is OK, exploration is fun, going to play some more.
It's the same crap Mass Effect got for their work, it plays like an FPS but it's still an RPG..which i hate, but, this new system of doing things gives it a broader audience as i didn't hate it as much. Actually, i quite liked Mass Effect. I didn't get to finish it but, i do have a chance at playing Fallout 3 and i may just give it a shot instead of skipping it.
its the fact that you have to use vats in Fallout 3 that annoys me, i mean i never used vats a single time in the real Fallout games

Fallout is an RPG, Oblivion isn'tOne big difference: Choices and consiquences

This is instant C%26C. What you see is what you get. You know exactly what will happen. Maybe that is adequate for a world-centered game like Fallout 3. C%26C I like isn't obvious to the player when making a choice. Like in the Witcher, when choices made come back to bite you in the ass later in the story.
